1. This is an interesting piece about a few indie band’s fashion schtick. Includes Vampire Weekend, Zach Condon, Deerhunter, and Grizzly Bear. <NYTimes>
2. Apparently the Vatican dreamed up some new social sins to tack onto the original ones. I think they just got bored with the lack of coverage they’ve received lately. <Boing Boing>
“You offend God not only by stealing, taking the Lord’s name in vain or coveting your neighbor’s wife, but also by wrecking the environment, carrying out morally debatable experiments that manipulate DNA or harm embryos,” said [Bishop Gianfranco] Girotti, who is responsible for the body that oversees confessions.
The seven social sins are:
1. “Bioethical” violations such as birth control
2. “Morally dubious” experiments such as stem cell research
3. Drug abuse
4. Polluting the environment
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty
The original deadly sins:
1. Pride
2. Envy
3. Gluttony
4. Lust
5. Anger
6. Greed
7. Sloth “
3. What better way to end today’s post than to post one of my new favorite blogs called Skin Byrd. For those that don’t get it, it’s a term for a girl skinhead. If This Is England got you excited about girls into fighting, beer, football (soccer…), Fred Perry, and Ben Sherman than this is your new favorite website <Skin Byrd>
4. Today’s Album
The Stone Roses - What The World Is Waiting For - One of the more rare albums, one of the best Madchester bands from the later years.
