I’ve always liked the history of Levi’s, a working class jean for the working class man. Which is why this new endeavor into vintage from Levi’s is pretty cool, except for the fact that it costs over $800 in American currency based on the price that Hanon shop is giving. The bag is actually the best thing about the whole pack. While it’d be nice to have, I couldn’t see myself wearing the jeans personally.

WTF? Are these a historical relic? In that case, I can see paying $800. In not, they are signs of the hipsterfication of the world: being rich and pretending you are poor and hard working.
I don’t think you can live in modern society and be a hipster or hippie, as these were post WW II creations. The original hippies and hipsters were rebelling against the post WWII materialism of the 50s and maybe WWII-Vietnam-Korean war itself. And many came from actual working class background.
Today, we have “hippies” wearing no shoes and dredlocks driving Audi A4s at college campuses, like the University of Colorado-boulder–this new hippie has nothing to rebel against but an isolated youth in the suburbs Jack Kerouac would be rolling his eyes and in the grave– even Kerouac hated being called a “hipster” or “beat”–there was an interview where he said, “I’m not a beatnik, I’m a Catholic.”–well said Jack.

Yea, it’s definitely a replica. the original pair look beat to hell. i forgot which store it is, but it has replica kerouac items for sale at something like 200% or so above the normal cost of them. there’s a lot of company’s going down the working class road for their new seasons and sometimes it’s a new take on something classic. a lot of the time, unfortunately, it’s nearly the exact same design with a heavy price tag.
Head for your nearest Army/Navy store and ask for a musette bag. Used to be able to get good WWII ones in pretty good shape for pennies. Great for toting along small stuff. And authentic to boot.
I’ll have to do that, thanks for the heads up. I haven’t seen too many around the surplus stores around here, but I could probably find a cheap one online.
