Being a fan of Rogues Gallery and everything nautical made me quite excited to see the new Men’s Vogue and it’s article featuring it’s main man’s house. Following his brand and aestetic, his house is a treasure chest of antiques from yesteryear’s that any collector or admirer would fall in love with. Make sure to check out the new issue, and thanks very much to A Continuous Lean for the photos.

The new A.P.C. showings continue to make strides in fashion. The winter ‘09 line has launched and has much to offer as always. The pea-coats and tweed are especially exciting. Thanks to Kempt.

Sorry for the lack of updates. My Internet is on the fringe. Hopefully all will be well soon.

Here’s a great documentary on one of the most controversial films ever made by Stanley Kubrick, adapted from Anthony Burgess’ novel.

Feels like Spring just ended, and here comes next year’s hot items. A.P.C. rarely disappoints in every form it takes, their spring footwear continues that great trend. The boat shoes continue to be on top, and the best out of every spring footwear line I’ve seen lately are the solid oxfords they’re offering. Simply incredible looking. <Selectism>

Mark Rothko

A couple of months ago I featured a documentary on Mark Rothko, one of America’s greatest artists from the previous century. Today I finally saw one of his pieces a few feet from my face. Brilliant work as the rest of the color field exhibit showcased American artists from the post-world war period. If you ever get a chance to see one of his pieces, do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in it face to face.

He used bright, vibrant colors from his early days. Then moving on to his the 70’s before his death, his work became increasingly darker. However, he left an incredible array of pieces to a architectual masterpiece in Houston as a Chapel right before his death. I’d love to visit it one day if I am ever in Texas.

A painting is not about experience. It is an experience

Woolrich’s turn around has been drastic within the last two years. Flooding their new direction with top designers has led to more refreshing, new takes on classic items. Selectism featured the brand recently, and I’m once again looking forward to it.

American Hardcore was a decent book and film documentary. I’m interested to check this out and see how it matches up in similarities and views on subjects and events. Radio Silence offers a new one, let’s hope it makes a staple.

Hardcore music emerged just after the first wave of punk rock in the late 1970s. American punk kids who loved the speed and attitude of punk took hold of its spirit, got rid of the “live fast, die young” mind-set and made a brilliant revision: hardcore. The dividing line between punk and hardcore music was in the delivery: less pretense, less melody, and more aggression. This urgency seeped its way from the music into the look of hardcore. There wasn’t time to mold your liberty spikes or shine your Docs, it was jeans and T-shirts, Chuck Taylors and Vans. The skull and safety-pin punk costume was replaced by hi-tops and hooded sweatshirts. Jamie Reid’s ransom note record cover aesthetic gave way to black-and-white photographs of packed shows accompanied by bold and simple typography declaring things like: The Kids Will Have Their Say, and You’re Only Young Once.

Le Royal Monceau, a Parisian destination for travellers dating back to Hemingway, will be closing it’s doors for a year long renovation. To offer a grand exit, Arne Quinze, a Belgian artist, will be displaying an incredible work. Thanks to The Apartment/De Zeen for the great feature.

I’ve seen a lot of new seasons lately, and they’ve all been great. J.Lindeberg has released some nice things in the past year or two. However, the new things they’re putting out have been catching my eye. Can’t wait to see this on shelves. <Selectism>

Art Of Manliness once again covers another topic dear to Americans hearts, fireworks on the day our country became a country. Be safe everyone, hoards of food, alcohol, and explosives can always turn ugly. Keep your head on straight at least a little bit.
