The Banks Of The Royal Canal (Ye Auld Triangle)

I had never heard this great rendition by Bob Dylan of one the most renowned Irish anthems by Brendan Behan until the other day. My favorite whiskey band, The Pogues, did probably the best version I have ever heard of the song. The Dubliners, Dropkick Murphy’s, Cat Power, and others have also covered it over the years.

Below is still to this day one of my favorite quotes by Brendan Behan,

I respect kindness to human beings first of all, and kindness to animals. I don’t respect the law; I have a total irreverence for anything connected with society except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer.”

Great find. This tune will play at my wake. Tweedy does a mean version in the film Sunken Treasure.
