Bert Grimm

Here’s to another Godfather of tattooing. Bert Grimm was a blossoming tattoo artist in the midewest who honed his craft and eventually moved west and opened many shops in the southern California region. I constantly find myself staring at these and finding something new everytime. Head over to Garage Magazine for one of the better bios and profiles I’ve seen on him.

I never get tired of looking at his flash and tattoos, never waste a chance to do so. The cool thing is that his legacy still continues in Southern California to this day through artists like Rick Walters who were apprenticed (to one degree or another) by Bob who was apprenticed by Bert Grimm. I have several Bert Grimm originals tattooed on me by Rick… something about being tattooed by someone who is a direct link to Bob Shaw and Bert Grimm.
